Point cloud video format

jpapon
Hey guys,

Is anyone working on (or has completed) a standard format for point cloud videos?
Right now I'm still using sequential PCD files, but obviously this is far from perfect.

I'd like to make an example for a new sequentially updated octree that I've developed, and I'd like to make input to it something better than the regex stuff I'm doing currently.

Cheers,

Jeremie

p.s. What's with all the spam?

Jeremie,

There is a PCD 2.0 format that Geoff was working on based on TIDE (his own encapsulation/mod of a Matroska based container). I don’t think it has been finished yet, but Geoff can talk more about that.

Regarding the Nabble SPAM: that is not making to the mailing list, and it’s only present on the web interface. Unfortunately Nabble doesn’t have enough resources to mark everything as SPAM as fast as it comes in. Clearing them out from the page is really easy, and it only takes a few clicks. If more people would like to help, I can set them up with Admin rights for pcl-developers.org/pcl-users.org so they can help.

Most devels are using their inboxes directly to read e-mail, so that might be why no one else saw this yet.

Best,
Radu.

Re: Point cloud video format

Geoffrey Biggs
Jeremie,

There is an unpolished but working implementation of a video format for point clouds available. In the tools directory, there is a tool called pcl_video. It demonstrates how to record and play back a sequence of point clouds. The file format implementation is available here:

https://github.com/gbiggs/tawara

It might take a little fiddling to get it to work (mainly editing the pcl_video source to account for the library's name change, I think).

Geoff

Hi Geoff,

I tried compiling the tawara library with Visual Studio 2015, but several compatibility errors occur with C ++ 11. Have you had any breakthrough with the PCD video format?

Thank you!
